June Helm is professor emerita of anthropology at the University of Iowa, past president of the American Anthropological Association, and editor of Subarctic, volume 6 of the Handbook of North American Indians. In the 1970s she served as adviser on land claims research to the Indian Brotherhood (later the Dene First Nations) of Canada's Northwest Territories and consultant to Canada's Mackenzie Valley Pipeline Inquiry.
