Feminist Theory and International Relations in a Postmodern Era
Free Download Christine Sylvester, "Feminist Theory and International Relations in a Postmodern Era"
English | 1994 | ISBN: 0521459842, 0521393051 | PDF | pages: 288 | 66.9 mb
This book argues that the identities and activities commonly associated with women have been eliminated from the theories formulated about international relations. The author points out that these theories often rely on the hidden activities of women and their assigned tasks in life to establish a sphere of politics that is for men only. Using case studies of the Greenham Common Women's Peace Camp in the UK, and of Zimbabwean women's efforts to secure international funding for producer cooperatives, the book explores the possibility of undermining the masculine identity politics of international relations.

Feminist Aesthetics and the Politics of Modernism (2024)
Free Download Ewa Płonowska Ziarek, "Feminist Aesthetics and the Politics of Modernism"
English | 2012 | pages: 288 | ISBN: 0231161484, 0231161492 | EPUB | 16,1 mb
Ewa Ziarek fully articulates a feminist aesthetics, focusing on the struggle for freedom in women's literary and political modernism and the devastating impact of racist violence and sexism. She examines the contradiction between women's transformative literary and political practices and the oppressive realities of racist violence and sexism, and she situates these tensions within the entrenched opposition between revolt and melancholia in studies of modernity and within the friction between material injuries and experimental aesthetic forms. Ziarek's political and aesthetic investigations concern the exclusion and destruction of women in politics and literary production and the transformation of this oppression into the inaugural possibilities of writing and action. Her study is one of the first to combine an in-depth engagement with philosophical aesthetics, especially the work of Theodor W. Adorno, with women's literary modernism, particularly the writing of Virginia Woolf and Nella Larsen, along with feminist theories on the politics of race and gender. By bringing seemingly apolitical, gender-neutral debates about modernism's experimental forms together with an analysis of violence and destroyed materialities, Ziarek challenges both the anti-aesthetic subordination of modern literature to its political uses and the appreciation of art's emancipatory potential at the expense of feminist and anti-racist political struggles.

Feminism Unfinished A Short, Surprising History of American Women's Movements
Free Download Feminism Unfinished: A Short, Surprising History of American Women's Movements By Dorothy Sue Cobble, Linda Gordon, Astrid Henry
2014 | 288 Pages | ISBN: 0871406764 | EPUB | 2 MB
The American women's movement has been shrouded in myths, argue three leading scholars in this bold and revisionist history. Eschewing the conventional wisdom that places the origins of the American women's movement in the nostalgic glow of the late 1960s, Feminism Unfinished traces the beginnings of this seminal American social movement to the 1920s, in the process creating an expanded, historical narrative that dramatically rewrites a century of American women's history. Also challenging the contemporary "lean-in," trickle-down feminist philosophy and asserting that women's histories all too often depoliticize politics, labor issues, and divergent economic circumstances, Dorothy Sue Cobble, Linda Gordon, and Astrid Henry demonstrate that the post-Suffrage women's movement focused on exploitation of women in the workplace as well as on inherent sexual rights. The authors carefully revise our "wave" vision of feminism, which previously suggested that there were clear breaks and sharp divisions within these media-driven "waves." Showing how history books have obscured the notable activism by working-class and minority women in the past, Feminism Unfinished provides a much-needed corrective. 20 illustrations

Free Download Lindsay Anne Balfour, "FemTech: Intersectional Interventions in Women's Digital Health"
English | ISBN: 9819956048 | 2023 | 356 pages | PDF | 7 MB

It explores the intersection of gender and embodied computing, with particular attention to access barriers and the forms of biometric surveillance that operate in wearables, ingestibles, and embeddables marketed to women (the industry generally known as "FemTech"). While the most utilized and profitable FemTech products include ovulation and fitness trackers, reproductive technologies, contraceptive microchips, and "smart" pills, this only represents a fraction of health concerns affecting women.

Felix Hausdorff Mathematician, Philosopher, Man of Letters
Free Download Felix Hausdorff: Mathematician, Philosopher, Man of Letters
English | 2024 | ISBN: 303152134X | 512 Pages | PDF (True) | 15 MB
Felix Hausdorff is a singular phenomenon in the history of science. As a mathematician, he played a major role in shaping the development of modern mathematics in the 20th century. He founded general topology as an independent mathematical discipline, while enriching set theory with a number of fundamental concepts and results. His general approach to measure and dimension led to profound developments in numerous mathematical disciplines, and today Hausdorff dimension plays a central role in fractal theory with its many fascinating applications by means of computer graphics. Hausdorff 's remarkable mathematical versatility is reflected in his published work: today, no fewer than thirteen concepts, theorems and procedures carry his name. Yet he was not only a creative mathematician - Hausdorff was also an original philosophical thinker, a poet, essayist and man of letters. Under the pseudonym Paul Mongré, he published a volume of aphorisms, an epistemological study, abook of poetry, an oft-performed play, and a number of notable essays in leading literary journals. As a Jew, Felix Hausdorff was increasingly persecuted and humiliated under the National Socialist dictatorship. When deportation to a concentration camp was imminent, he, along with his wife and sister-in law, decided to take their own lives.
