Fear and Other Stories
Free Download Chana Blankshteyn, "Fear and Other Stories "
English | ISBN: 0814349277 | 2022 | 164 pages | EPUB | 447 KB
Fear and Other Storiesis a translation from Yiddish to English of the collected stories of Chana Blankshteyn (~1860-1939), a woman who may be almost entirely forgotten now but was widely admired during her long and productive life. The mere existence of these stories is itself a remarkable feat as the collection was published in July 1939, just before the Nazis invaded Poland and two weeks before Blankshteyn's death. Anita Norich's introduction argues that this is not a work of Holocaust literature (there are no death camps, partisans or survivors of WWII), but anti-Semitism is palpable, as is the threat of war and its aftermath. What could it have felt like to live under these conditions? How might a woman who was a feminist, a Jew, and an activist understand the recent past of war and revolution through which she had lived and also confront the horror that was beginning to unfold?

Fault Tolerant Control of Large Civil Aircraft
Free Download Fault Tolerant Control of Large Civil Aircraft
English | 2024 | ISBN: 9819716535 | 157 Pages | PDF EPUB (True) | 36 MB
This book provides a comprehensive analysis of fault tolerant control (FTC) for more-electric civil aircraft. FTC is a crucial approach to enhance the reliability and safety of aircraft in the event of actuator, sensor, or structural failures. Engineers and scientists from diverse disciplines, including aeronautics, electrical, mechanical, and control engineering, have been drawn to research on FTC. This book analyzes the impact of faults on performance degradation in dissimilar redundant actuation systems of civil aircraft and presents the FTC methods to ensure reliable actuation and efficient control. Additionally, this book addresses surface damage issues, such as the loss of elevator, horizontal stabilizer, and rudder, by providing representative FTC methods. The book's major highlight is its comprehensive and systematic approach to FTC design, making it an ideal resource for readers interested in learning about FTC design for civil aircraft. The book benefits researchers, engineers, and graduate students in the fields of FTC, adaptive control, flight control, etc.

Fathers and Mothers Dilemmas of the Work–Life Balance A Comparative Study in Four European Countries
Free Download Margret Fine-Davis, Jeanne Fagnani, Dino Giovannini, "Fathers and Mothers: Dilemmas of the Work-Life Balance: A Comparative Study in Four European Countries"
English | 2004 | pages: 370 | ISBN: 1402018487, 140201807X | PDF | 1,6 mb
At the risk of sounding frivolous, there is a good case to be made for the argument that women constitute the revolutionary force behind contemporary social and economic transformation. It is in large part the changing role of women that explains the new household structure, our altered demographic behaviour, the growth of the service economy and, as a consequence, the new dilemmas that the advanced societies face. Most European countries have failed to adapt adequately to the novel challenges and the result is an increasingly serious disequilibrium. Women explicitly desire economic independence and the societal collective, too, needs to maximise female employment. And yet, this runs up against severe incompatibility problems that then result in very low birth rates. Our aging societies need more kids, yet fertility levels are often only half of what citizens define as their desired number of children. No matter what happens in the next decade, we are doomed to have exceedingly small cohorts that, in turn, must shoulder the massive burden of supporting a retired baby-boom generation. Hence it is tantamount that tomorrow's adults be maximally productive and, yet, the typical EU member state invests very little in its children and families.

Fate and Freedom in Korean Historical Films
Free Download Kyung Moon Hwang, "Fate and Freedom in Korean Historical Films "
English | ISBN: 3031272676 | 2023 | 274 pages | PDF | 6 MB
This open access book examines the depiction of Korean history in recent South Korean historical films. Released over the Hallyu ("Korean Wave") period starting in the mid-1990s, these films have reflected, shaped, and extended the thriving public discourse over national history. In these works, the balance between fate and freedom―the negotiation between societal constraints and individual will, as well as cyclical and linear history―functions as a central theme, subtext, or Description device for illuminating a rich variety of historical events, figures, and issues. In sum, these highly accomplished films set in Korea's past address universal concerns about the relationship between structure and agency, whether in collective identity or in individual lives. Written in an engaging and accessible style by an established historian, Fate and Freedom in Korean Historical Films
