Proximity and Distance Medieval Hebrew and Arabic Poetry
Free Download Proximity and Distance: Medieval Hebrew and Arabic Poetry By Tobi, Joseph
2004 | 412 Pages | ISBN: 900413798X | PDF | 2 MB
The first steps in Hebrew secular poetry took place around the turn of the ninth century, under the impact of contemporary Arabic poetry. This impact was so great that some researchers, incorrectly, define the Hebrew poetry as a school which is distinct from the Arabic school only by virtue of its Hebrew language. However, the right way to the essence of medieval Hebrew poetry is not only by revealing and describing its ties with Arabic poetry but also by determining the specific characteristics by which it stubbornly distinguished itself from its Arabic contemporaries. This innovative critical approach is the central feature of this book.

Protestors United alternative solutions
Free Download Edmond Vongehr, "Protestors United: alternative solutions"
English | 2018 | ISBN: 1642149497 | EPUB | pages: 252 | 1.2 mb
Edmond Dantex Vongehr's new book calls patriotic Americans to action. Protesters United shares a vision of taking the nation back from the corrupted elite. The gap between the rich and poor continues to widen, the elite continue to wield disproportionate power over the common man. For author Edmond Dantes Vongehr, along with countless other Americans, the situation has become intolerable, and something must be done to address the rampant inequality. In Protestors United, Vongehr reveals alternative solutions that may save the nation yet. Vongehr presents seventy-two letters from people regarding the present condition of the United States of America. The letters date back three years. The book will reveal the alternative solutions both political and economic, for a better world as predicted by Edward Bellamy's dream in Looking Backward. The nation has been left in a state of neglect for far too long. Those in charge have abused the powers entrusted to them. To Vongehr, the time has come for the people to speak and have their voices heard. When people are no longer divided, when Protesters United across the nation take a stand, a wave of change will come and usher forth a new morning for the United States. That is the true American dream envisioned by Vongehr, the vision he shares to readers everywhere.

Protein Folding and Misfolding Shining Light by Infrared Spectroscopy
Free Download Protein Folding and Misfolding: Shining Light by Infrared Spectroscopy by Heinz Fabian, Dieter Naumann
English | PDF | 2012 | 257 Pages | ISBN : 3642222293 | 15.4 MB
Infrared spectroscopy is a new and innovative technology to study protein folding/misfolding events in the broad arsenal of techniques conventionally used in this field. The progress in understanding protein folding and misfolding is primarily due to the development of biophysical methods which permit to probe conformational changes with high kinetic and structural resolution. The most commonly used approaches rely on rapid mixing methods to initiate the folding event via a sudden change in solvent conditions. Traditionally, techniques such as fluorescence, circular dichroism or visible absorption are applied to probe the process. In contrast to these techniques, infrared spectroscopy came into play only very recently, and the progress made in this field up to date which now permits to probe folding events over the time scale from picoseconds to minutes has not yet been discussed in a book. The aim of this book is to provide an overview of the developments as seen by some of the main contributors to the field. The chapters are not intended to give exhaustive reviews of the literature but, instead to illustrate examples demonstrating the sort of information, which infrared techniques can provide and how this information can be extracted from the experimental data. By discussing the strengths and limitations of the infrared approaches for the investigation of folding and misfolding mechanisms this book helps the reader to evaluate whether a particular system is appropriate for studies by infrared spectroscopy and which specific advantages the techniques offer to solve specific problems.

Prosecuting Heads of State
Free Download Prosecuting Heads of State By Lutz, Ellen L(Editor);Reiger, Caitlin
2009 | 326 Pages | ISBN: 0521491096 | PDF | 2 MB
Since 1990, 67 former heads of state or government have been legitimately prosecuted for serious human rights or financial crimes. Many of these leaders were brought to trial in reasonably free and fair judicial processes, and some served time in prison as a result. This book explores the reasons for the meteoric rise in trials of senior leaders and the motivations, public dramas, and intrigues that accompanied efforts to bring them to justice. Drawing on an analysis of the 67 cases, the book examines the emergence of regional trends in Europe and Latin America and contains eight case studies of high-profile trials of former government leaders: Augusto Pinochet (Chile), Alberto Fujimori (Peru), Slobodan Milosevic (former Yugoslavia), Charles Taylor (Liberia and Sierra Leone), and Saddam Hussein (Iraq) studies written by experts who closely followed their cases and their impacts on wider societies. This is the only book that examines the rise in the number of domestic and international trials globally and tells the tales in readable prose and with fascinating details."

Proper Names Versus Common Nouns Morphosyntactic Contrasts in the Languages of the World
Free Download Caro Reina, "Proper Names Versus Common Nouns: Morphosyntactic Contrasts in the Languages of the World "
English | ISBN: 3110672472 | 2022 | 250 pages | PDF | 7 MB
Recent research has shown that proper names morphosyntactically differ from common nouns in many ways. However, little is known about the morphological and syntactic/distributional differences between proper names and common nouns in less known (Non)-Indo-European languages. This volume brings together contributions which explore morphosyntactic phenomena such as case marking, gender assignment rules, definiteness marking, and possessive constructions from a synchronic, diachronic, and typological perspective. The languages surveyed include Austronesian languages, Basque, English, German, Hebrew, and Romance languages. The volume contributes to a better understanding not only of the contrasts between proper names and common nouns, but also of formal contrasts between different proper name classes such as personal names, place names, and others.

Propaganda in Autocracies
Free Download Propaganda in Autocracies: Institutions, Information, and the Politics of Belief
English | 2023 | ISBN: 1009271245 | 553 Pages | PDF | 9.3 MB
A dictator's power is secure, the authors begin in this muscular, impressive study, only as long as citizens believe in it. When citizens suddenly believe otherwise, a dictator's power is anything but, as the Soviet Union's collapse revealed. This conviction - that power rests ultimately on citizens' beliefs - compels the world's autocrats to invest in sophisticated propaganda. This study draws on the first global data set of autocratic propaganda, encompassing nearly eight million newspaper articles from fifty-nine countries in six languages. The authors document dramatic variation in propaganda across autocracies: in coverage of the regime and its opponents, in narratives about domestic and international life, in the threats of violence issued to citizens, and in the domestic events that shape it. The book explains why Russian President Vladimir uses Donald Trump as a propaganda tool and why Chinese state propaganda is more effusive than any point since the Cultural Revolution.
