Michael Gerli; Michael E Gerli 1995 | 154 Pages | ISBN: 0813119227 | EPUB | 1 MB In this wide-ranging study E. Michael Gerli shows how Cervantes and his contemporaries ceaselessly imitated one another--glossing works, dismembering and reconstructing them, writing for and against one another--while playing sophisticated games of literary one-upmanship. The result was that literature in late Renaissance Spain was often more than a simple matter of source and imitation. It must be understood as a far more subtle, palimpsest-like process of forging endless series of texts from other texts, thus linking closely the practices of reading, writing, and rewriting. Like all major writers of the age, Cervantes was responding not just to specific literary traditions but to a broad range of texts and discourses. He expected his well-read audience to recognize his sources and to appreciate their transformations. The notion of writing as reading and reading as writing is thus central to an understanding of Cervantes' literary invention. As he created his works, he constantly questioned and reconfigured the authority of other texts, appropriating, combining, naturalizing, and effacing them, displacing them with his own themes, images, styles, and beliefs. Modern literary theory has confirmed what Cervantes and his contemporaries intuitively knew--that reading and writing are closely linked dimensions of the literary enterprise. Reading Cervantes and his contemporaries in this way enables us to cojnprehend the craft, wit, irony, and subtle conceit that he at the heart of seventeenth-century Spanish literature. ![]() Free Download Reducing the Cost of Spacecraft Ground Systems and Operations by Jiun-Jih Miau, Richard Holdaway English | PDF | 2000 | 434 Pages | ISBN : 0792361741 | 41.6 MB Reducing the cost of space program interests people more and more nowadays due to the concerns of budget limitation and commercialization of space technology. Focused on researchers, engineers, and students in materials science and energy storage fields, this book systematically covers the synthesis, properties, and applications of rGO, emphasizing its potential to revolutionize supercapacitor performance through enhanced energy density, capacitance, and stability. This book is crucial for those involved in energy storage research and development because it addresses the growing need for materials that can offer higher energy density and better cycle life in supercapacitors. By focusing on rGO, a material that combines the best properties of graphene and graphene oxide, the book provides a pathway to overcoming the limitations of current energy storage systems. This book is designed for researchers, engineers, students, and professionals in the fields of materials science, nanotechnology, and energy storage, particularly those focused on the development of next-generation supercapacitors and related technologies. ![]() Free Download Rediscovering Women Writers of Wartime London: Shining a Spotlight onto the Blitzed City by Evelina Garay Collcutt English | 2023 | ISBN: 1527529460 | 198 Pages | PDF | 30 MB This book shows the war-stricken city through the eyes of five women writers, whose novels vividly portray life in the Blitz. This new appraisal of their work brings to light the way in which they documented the Blitz in their fiction, highlighting the social changes which were taking place, especially in the lives of women, and leading to a fuller understanding of those turbulent times. The book re-evaluates the contribution of these writers to wartime literature, showing how their long-neglected novels focus on the experiences of individual women protagonists perceived in close relation to the menacing forces of war. This title will interest all those seeking to gain further knowledge of 20th-century women's writing, wartime literature, and social history as recorded in fiction. ![]() Free Download Red Teaming AI: Attacking & Defending Intelligent Systems by Philip A. The authors focus on language and literacy and English for Academic Purposes provisions in HE and bring together social semiotics (Systemic Functional Semiotics) and Bourdieu's Field Theory to illuminate the norms and orthodoxies which shape practices in these fields. Part 1 aims to 'break the illusio' around language ontology, ethics and pedagogy which hinders social justice aspirations. Part 2 proposes ways to recover meaning and move forward, through deliberate ethical considerations, and a detailed and expanded knowledgebase for language educators. The volume will be of interest to anyone involved in language and literacy in Higher Education. Read more ![]() Free Download Recovering Christian Realism : Just War Theory As a Political Ethic By H. David Baer 2014 | 119 Pages | ISBN: 1498507107 | EPUB | 1 MB In Recovering Christian Realism, H. David Baer interprets just war theory as political ethic concerned with the moral administration of power. He argues that contemporary just war theorists, by debating the finer points of individual criteria, have lost sight of the theory of politics that gives rise to just war thinking in the first place. Baer attempts to relocate just war theory within the tradition of Christian realism in order to develop an ethic capable of addressing the uses of power. He argues the just war criteria unfold from a description of the political act, one which harnesses power to peace and points the way toward an ethic of armed force and international relations. ![]() Free Download Don Berliner - Record-Breaking Airplanes Lerner Publications | 1984 | ISBN: 0822504294 | English | 68 pages | PDF | 35.57 MB Traces the history of air-speed records from Santos Dumont's first official record in 1906 to the records broken by modern-day, supersonic aircraft. ![]() Free Download Recent Trends in Artificial Intelligence Towards a Smart World: Applications in Industries and Sectors (Frontiers of Artificial Intelligence, Ethics and Multidisciplinary Applications) by Rajeev Arya, Subhash Chander Sharma, Ajit Kumar Verma English | September 10, 2024 | ISBN: 981976789X | 447 pages | MOBI | 16 Mb This book compiles artificial intelligence (AI) applications in new communication technologies such as the cognitive radio networks, internet of things (IoT), internet of drones (IoD), internet of vehicles (IoV), and autonomous underwater vehicles (AUV), which are expected to increase the amount of data traffic.
