English | ISBN: 9819795028 | 2025 | 228 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
The book is an exhaustive assessment of the innovative farmer producer companies or co-operative companies in India based on 23 case studies of such companies, including all-women member PCs, across four states of India. It not only assesses the physical and financial performance of the producer companies (PC) as business entities per se but also examines their impact on members compared with their situation before they became members and also compared with their non-member counterparts. It makes an assessment of performance and impact based on quantitative and qualitative data from various stakeholders like producer companies' employees, board members, and member and non-member farmers. The book analyzes data collected from farmer members and non-members of these PCs and compares performance of PC across promoters within a state and thus assesses the goodness of promotion model of each promoter studied. The methodology used is mixed methods approach wherein case study approach as well as interview survey method have been adopted. More importantly, the case studies also include some PCs which were more of a failure than a success story, to identify existing challenges.

Free Download Ken Akiba, "Indeterminacy, Vagueness, and Truth: The Boolean Many-Valued Approach "
English | ISBN: 3031741749 | 2024 |160 pages | EPUB | 5 MB
This book shows that the assumption that classical logic is essentially a bivalent (i.e., 2-valued) logic, a logic of truth and falsity, is an incorrect and harmful conception. Classical logic is certainly a Boolean logic, and the smallest (non-degenerate) Boolean algebra is the 2-element Boolean algebra; however, there are numerous Boolean algebras that have more than 2 elements, such as the 4-, 8-, 16-, ..., infinite-element Boolean algebra, and they all work equally well for the semantics of classical logic. Contrary to the popular thought, there is such a thing as classical (or Boolean) many-valued logic. The book applies this logic to solve such philosophical problems as the Fission Problem for personal identity, the Sorites Paradox, and the Liar Paradox. All these problems concern situations that involve indeterminacy or vagueness, situations where there seems 'no fact of the matter' that makes the relevant sentences true or false, thus requiring truth value gaps between truth and falsity. Because of that, classical logic has been thought to be an inadequate tool to deal with the problems. This book, however, offers solutions to those problems by retaining classical logic but assigning intermediate Boolean values to the relevant sentences. The book is of great value to researchers and graduate students in philosophy, especially for those who are interested in the philosophical issues surrounding indeterminacy, vagueness, and truth.

It offers valuable recommendations to promote self-reliance, making it an indispensable resource for scholars, policymakers, and practitioners.

Free Download Ashok Pankaj, "Inclusive Development Through Guaranteed Employment: India's MGNREGA Experiences "
English | ISBN: 9811574421 | 2023 | 343 pages | EPUB | 8 MB
This book examines the inclusive development experiences and impacts of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MGNREGS). It discusses the theoretical assumptions underlying the inclusive development of Employment Guarantee Scheme (EGS), and draws conclusions based on robust data and real-world experiences with the MGNREGS - which has attracted global attention as India's most ambitious, rights-based development initiative and most expansive work-based social security measure, the world's largest public works programme, and people-centric approach to development. The book argues that the Scheme holds vast potential, and, in fact, has made significant contribution to the promotion of livelihoods of the poorest of the poor, but that the weak institutions of local-self-governance, entrusted for implementation of the Scheme, are incapable of exploiting them to the full. It ends with a concrete policy suggestion: the inclusive development experiences gathered with theEGS and presented here could offer a source of policy change in many developing Afro-Asian countries whose situations are similar to India's, provided the local conditions in the respective country are taken into consideration when designing the EGS. Its significance as a social security measure has increased in post-COVID loss of jobs and livelihoods of the poor.

Free Download Harry A. Akoh, "In Search of an Independent Ambazonian Nation: Dimensions of Identity and Freedom"
English | ISBN: 3031457765 | 2024 | 376 pages | EPUB | 2 MB
This book documents the unusual courage by different generations of Ambazonians fighting to build a modern postcolonial nation-state in Africa. Written by experts in the field, the chapters analyze the Ambazonia liberation struggle from different perspectives. Examining the tangled origins of the Ambazonian war as well as documenting the region's extensive history of foreign occupation up until recent uprisings erupting in 2016, the contributors expose the unwillingness of the international systems to stand up to mandates and call for complete decolonization of the territory from French Cameroun. This book forces a re-examination of colonialism, neo-colonialism, and post-colonialism in West Africa, especially in the relatively obscure area of black-on-black colonization, and the inadequacy of international instruments in enforcing the universally accepted ideas from the previous century.

Free Download Stefania Ravazzi, "Improvisation and Emergency Management: Policy Responses to Covid-19 in Italy"
English | ISBN: 303163862X | | pages | EPUB | 6 MB
This book examines the role of improvisation in emergency response policies. Focusing on the Covid-19 pandemic in Italy, it demonstrates how improvisation can play a positive and productive role in emergency management. As well as offering one of the first systematic studies of policy responses to the pandemic in Italy - which was affected more than any other European country during the first wave of infection - it also throws light on the emotional, cognitive and behavioural strategies of the actors involved in emergency responses. These findings have important implications for emergency management around the world, including crises such as natural disasters, energy blackouts and nuclear accidents. The book will appeal to all those interested in public policy, public administration, emergency management and behavioural science.
