Carlo Rovelli, "General Relativity: The most beautiful of theories: Applications and trends after 100 years "
English | ISBN: 3110340429 | 2015 | 216 pages | MOBI | 3 MB
Generalising Newton's law of gravitation, general relativity is one of the pillars of modern physics. While applications in the beginning were restricted to isolated effects such as a proper understanding of Mercury's orbit, the second half of the twentieth century saw a massive development of applications. These include cosmology, gravitational waves, and even very practical results for satellite based positioning systems as well as different approaches to unite general relativity with another very successful branch of physics - quantum theory.

General Relativity (Series in Astronomy and Astrophysics) by Nicola Vittorio
English | July 8, 2025 | ISBN: 1032655275 | 272 pages | MOBI | 3.56 Mb
This book provides General Relativity problems to be tackled both analytically and symbolically-numerically with the Mathematica software. In the first case, the reader is guided in setting up the appropriate solutions. In the second case, the reader is provided with very illustrative notebooks to carry out the steps necessary to solve a General Relativity problem. These include the calculation of the Christoffel symbols, Riemann, Ricci, Einstein and energy-momentum tensors, as well as the resolution of the field equations of General Relativity in different astrophysical/cosmological contexts, with and without the introduction of a cosmological constant. This study guide should be used alongside existing textbooks to provide additional learning and engagement opportunities for advanced undergraduate and graduate students in physics and astrophysics taking courses on general relativity. It may also be of interest to mathematics students interested in celestial mechanics and space sciences.

Gendered Work in Asian Cities: The New Economy And Changing Labour Markets By Ann Brooks
2006 | 150 Pages | ISBN: 0754647005 | PDF | 1 MB
Do the new Asian economies encourage gender equality? Ann Brooks provides a unique insight into this question by assessing the impact of the new economy and the changing labour market on women in Asia. Theoretical debates around globalization, gender and social change are combined with empirical research on professional women in two cosmopolitan cities: Hong Kong and Singapore. The author's research shows that even in such cosmopolitan cities where women tend to have a strong advantage there is a 'new dynamic of inequality'. This makes the examination of women's labour market participation and ambition in these environments very different to previous research. The research is set against the backdrop of Southeast Asia more generally and international comparisons are also drawn. It will be of interest to scholars in sociology, economics, gender studies, business studies and Asian studies.

Zahra M. S. Ayubi, "Gendered Morality: Classical Islamic Ethics of the Self, Family, and Society"
English | ISBN: 0231191332 | 2019 | 368 pages | MOBI | 5 MB
Islamic scriptural sources offer potentially radical notions of equality. Yet medieval Islamic philosophers chose to establish a hierarchical, male-centered virtue ethics. In Gendered Morality, Zahra Ayubi rethinks the tradition of Islamic philosophical ethics from a feminist critical perspective. She calls for a philosophical turn in the study of gender in Islam based on resources for gender equality that are unlocked by feminist engagement with the Islamic ethical tradition.

Gendered Journeys, Mobile Emotions By Gayle Letherby, Gillian Reynolds
2009 | 236 Pages | ISBN: 0754670341 | PDF | 3 MB
It is increasingly acknowledged that an analysis of emotions is necessary to fully understand the social world, and recent research on transport, travel and mobilities has begun to consider the gendered nature of public and personal life in relation to this sphere. The focus of this multidisciplinary and auto/biographical volume is the emotional relationship that individuals and groups have with different means of travel. Attention is given to a variety of travel experiences, including travelling in trains, planes, cars, buses and ships, as well as biking, cycling, running and walking, from the perspective of travellers and those who earn their living in assisting these experiences of others. Imaginary travel and the relationships between art and travel are also considered.Adopting innovative approaches to experiential material ranging from personal memories to empirical research, ""Gendered Journeys, Mobile Emotions"" opens up and illuminates an interdisciplinary debate about the gendered, emotive and emotional nature of travelling.

Holly Lawford-Smith, "Gender-Critical Feminism"
English | ISBN: 0198863888 | 2022 | 312 pages | MOBI | 945 KB
The expectation used to be that men would be masculine and women would be feminine, and this was assumed to come naturally to them in virtue of their biology. That orthodoxy persists today in many parts of society. On this view, sex is gender and gender is sex.

Gender, Politeness and Pragmatic Particles in French By Kate Beeching
2001 | 161 Pages | ISBN: 9027253447 | PDF | 3 MB
This study aims to investigate politeness in women's and men's speech, with a particular focus on the use of c'est-a-dire, enfin, hein and quoi in contemporary spoken French. Politeness is defined as going beyond the notion of the face-threatening act, englobing both everyday ideas of politeness and the creation of sociability in face-to-face interaction. The pragmatic particles studied are demonstrated to serve both psycholinguistic and sociolinguistic purposes: they lubricate reformulation and contribute to both sociability and social indexation. The study, which combines qualitative and quantitative analysis, is based on a corpus of spontaneous spoken French, comprising 155,000 words, 95 interviews and subjects ranging in age from 7 to 88 years. The sample contains speakers from a broader range of educational backgrounds than is often the case: a butcher, a video-salesman and a toiletteur canin rub shoulders with counter assistants, teachers and doctors.
