Moving 'upstream' from the documented systems of Semitic, Berber and Old Cushitic the state of affairs during the common stage of Proto-Semito-Berbero-Cushitic is reconstructed. With the addition of Egyptian and Chadic data important conclusions regarding the elusive Proto-Afro-Asiatic are reached. Moving 'downstream' the trajectory of individual aspectual systems through their later stages is analyzed. A central piece of the monograph is the reconstruction of intermediate stages reflecting the long-term developments of aspectual and temporal categories of individual languages from the Old towards their Middle periods. The continuity and innovation in the aspectual systems towards the contemporary state of affairs in analytic (serial) constructions of Modern Aramaic and Arabic vernacular languages is explicated. The author demonstrates that it is imperative to work in a larger typological framework and that in the field of Afro-Asiatic linguistics valuable insights can be gained from the study of parallel phenomena in Indo-European languages. At the same time, Indo-Europeanists will profit from the study of typologically earlier aspect-prominent systems of Afro-Asiatic languages. The monograph offers important contributions to our understanding of universals and to the typology and diachrony of tense and aspect. ![]() Free Download Development Economics through the Decades: A Critical Look at Thirty Years of the World Development Report By Yusuf Shahid 2008 | 178 Pages | ISBN: 0821372556 | EPUB | 1 MB Since 1978, the World Bank's annual World Development Report (WDR) has provided in-depth analysis and policy recommendations on a specific and important aspect of international development from agriculture, the role of the state, economic growth, and labor to infrastructure, health, the environment, and poverty. In the process, it has become a highly influential publication that is consulted by international organizations, national governments, scholars, and civil society networks to inform their decision-making processes. In this essay, Shahid Yusuf examines the last 30 years of development economics, viewed through the WDRs. The essay begins with a brief background on the circumstances of newly independent developing countries and summarizes some of the main strands of the emerging field of development economics. It then provides a sweeping examination of the coverage of the WDRs, reflecting on the key development themes synthesized by these reports and assessing how the research they present has contributed to policy making and development thought. The book then looks ahead and points to some of the big challenges that the World Bank may explore through future WDRs. The essay is followed by five commentaries, each written by a distinguished economist or development practitioner, which further explore this terrain from different perspectives. Together, the contents of this volume provide an extraordinary and remarkably compact tour of development economics through, around, and beyond the WDR. It will be invaluable to anyone interested in the evolution of development economics over the past three decades as well as for students, scholars, and policy makers in the field of development. ![]() Free Download Developing the Domestic Government Debt Market : From Diagnostics to Reform Implementation By World Bank 2007 | 120 Pages | ISBN: 0821368745 | PDF | 1 MB Domestic government debt markets play a critical role in managing public debt effectively and reducing the vulnerability of developing countries to financial crises. Many aspects of debt markets - money, primary, and secondary markets; a diversified investor base; and sound securities custody and settlement systems and regulation - interact in complex ways and are affected by previous policies and developments. Developing the Domestic Government Debt Market: From Diagnostics to Reform Implementation draws insights from a joint pilot program set up by the World Bank and International Monetary Fund to design relevant reform and capacity-building programs in twelve countries. The experiences of these geographically and economically diverse countries - Bulgaria, Colombia, Costa Rica, Croatia, Indonesia, Kenya, Lebanon, Nicaragua, Pakistan, Sri Lanka, Tunisia, and Zambia - illustrate the challenges, obstacles, and progress in applying principles of market development. Developing the Domestic Government Debt Market will serve government officials contemplating or in the process of reforming their practices, providers of technical assistance, and practitioners working on building capacity in debt market development. Because effective development of debt markets is one key piece in sound public debt management , readers will also be interested in the companion volume, Managing Public Debt, published by The World Bank in February 2007, based on the same joint pilot program. ![]() Free Download Developing and Evaluating Multi-Agency Partnerships : A Practical Toolkit for Schools and Children's Centre Managers By Rita Cheminais 2009 | 103 Pages | ISBN: 0415556570 | EPUB | 1 MB In recent years government initiatives such as Sure Start, Extended Schools and Every Child Matters have been significant in the promotion of an agenda to create collaborative working environments and introduce multi-agency practice into a range of child-centred settings. The essays in this volume summarize the existing state of knowledge of tax compliance and tax evasion, present new thinking about this issue, and analyze the empirical relevance of these new perspectives. The original essays in this volume represent an attempt to provide a framework on compliance that moves beyond the economics-of-crime perspective, one that provides a more complete understanding of individual (and group) decisions, and one that is more consistent with empirical evidence. It is the insights of behavioural economics that provide much of the bases for these essays and the main theme running through this book is that the basic model of individual choice must be expanded, by introducing some aspects of behaviour or motivation considered explicitly by other social sciences. ![]() Free Download Destiny Disrupted: A History of the World Through Islamic Eyes by Tamim Ansary English | April 27, 2010 | ISBN: 1586488139 | 416 pages | MOBI | 5.25 Mb Destiny Disrupted, "a must-read for anyone who wants to learn more about the history of the Islamic world,"(San Francisco Chronicle)tells the history of the world from the Islamic point of view, and restores the centrality of the Muslim perspective, ignored for a thousand years. ![]() Free Download Destination CCSP: The Comprehensive Guide by Rob Witcher, John Berti, Josh Lake English | November 12, 2024 | ISBN: N/A | ASIN: B0CWT3YQWC | 1020 pages | MOBI | 19 Mb The goal of this comprehensive study guide is simple: we want to help you pass the CCSP exam with confidence and provide you with a solid foundation of security knowledge that will make you a better security professional as you navigate your career. ![]() Free Download Designing a Modern Application Data Stack English | 2023 | ISBN: 9781098157524 | 64 pages | PDF | 1.36 Mb Today's massive datasets represent an unprecedented opportunity for organizations to build data-intensive applications. Wood 2009 | 263 Pages | ISBN: 041547616X | EPUB | 1 MB The activities of central banks are relevant to everyone in society. This book starts by considering how and why in general central banks evolved and specifically the special aspects of the contribution of the Northern European Central Banking Tradition. With that foundation, the book will then turn to a series of contemporary themes. Firstly, this book looks at independence, how central banks can actually influence their respective economies, goals, responsibilities and governance. This collection of papers, formulated from the joint conference of the Bank of Finland and the Deutsche Bundesbank in November 2007, will help motivate continuing research into the institutional design of central banks and promote a better understanding of the many challenges central banks are facing today. This volume gives a detailed perspective on the benefits of price stability and central bank independence and, due to the advances in macroeconomic theory, has prompted a substantial rethink on central banks' institutional design. With contributions from such scholars as Anne Sibert and Forrest Capie and a foreword by Erkki Liikanen and Professor Axel A. Weber, this volume will be useful reading for monetary economists around the world as well as all those with an interest in central banks and banking more generally. ![]() Free Download Design Your Life: Your Career, Your Way by Erifili Gounari English | October 29, 2024 | ISBN: 1398617229 | 256 pages | MOBI | 0.75 Mb We don't have to conform to traditional ways of working.
