Emerging Applications of Vacuum-Arc-Produced Plasma, Ion and Electron Beams
Free Download Emerging Applications of Vacuum-Arc-Produced Plasma, Ion and Electron Beams by Efim Oks, Ian Brown
English | PDF | 2002 | 230 Pages | ISBN : 1402010656 | 29.5 MB
The NATO-sponsored Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) on "Emerging Applications of Vacuum-Arc-Produced Plasma, Ion and Electron Beams" was held at the Baikal Dunes Resort, Lake Baikal, Russia, on June 24-28, 2002. Participants were from NATO countries Belgium, Czech Republic, Germany, Poland, Turkey and the USA, and from NATO partner countries Bulgaria, Russia, Ukraine and Uzbekistan. The goal of the meeting was to bring together researchers involved in novel applications of plasmas and ion/electron beams formed from vacuum arc discharges, especially in less conventional or emerging scientific areas such as new perspectives on vacuum arc phenomena, generation of high charge state metal ions, heavy ion accelerator injection, multi-layer thin film synthesis, biological applications, generation of high-current high-density electron beams, and more. It was our hope that the meeting would engender new research directions and help to establish new collaborations, prompt new thinking for research and technology applications of vacuum arc science, and in general foster development of the field. The Workshop was a great success, as was clearly felt by all of the attendees. The small number of participants at the meeting tended to encourage a high level of closeness and communication between individuals. The location, a small resort on the western side of Lake Baikal in the vicinity of Irkutsk, was ideal - the isolated location, small and quiet, was excellent and was most conducive to discussion among individuals and small groups quite apart from the formal presentations.

Elliptic Functions and Modular Forms
Free Download Elliptic Functions and Modular Forms
English | 2025 | ISBN: 3662712237 | 373 Pages | PDF | 4 MB
The theory of elliptic functions and modular forms is rich and storied, though it has a reputation for difficulty. In this textbook, the authors successfully bridge foundational concepts and advanced material. Following Weierstrass's approach to elliptic functions, they also cover elliptic curves and complex multiplication. The sections on modular forms, which can be read independently, include discussions of Hecke operators and Dirichlet series. Special emphasis is placed on theta series, with some advanced results included. With detailed proofs and numerous exercises, this book is well-suited for self-study or use as a reference. A companion website provides videos and a discussion forum on the topic.

Electrons in Metals and Semiconductors
Free Download Electrons in Metals and Semiconductors by R. G. Chambers
English | PDF | 1990 | 239 Pages | ISBN: 0412368404 | 9.3 MB
Solid-state physics has for many years been one of the largest and most active areas of research in physics, and the physics of metals and semiconductors has in turn been one of the largest and most active areas in solid-state physics. Despite this, it is an area in which new and quite unexpected phenomena - such as the quantum Hall effect - are still being discovered, and in which many things are not yet fully understood. It forms an essential part of any undergraduate physics course. A number of textbooks on solid-state physics have appeared over the years and, because the subject has now grown so large, the books too have usually been large. By aiming at a more limited range of topics, I have tried in this book to cover them within a reasonably small compass. But I have also tried to avoid the phrase 'It can be shown that. . . ', as far as possible, and instead to explain to the reader just why things are the way they are; and sometimes this takes a little longer. I hope that some readers at least will find this approach helpful. 1 The free-electron model 1. 1 THE CLASSICAL DRUDE THEORY The characteristic properties of metals and semiconductors are due to their conduction electrons: the electrons in the outermost atomic shells, which in the solid state are no longer bound to individual atoms, but are free to wander through the solid.

Electronics A General Introduction for the Non-Specialist
Free Download Electronics: A General Introduction for the Non-Specialist by G. H. Olsen
English | PDF | 1968 | Pages | ISBN : 1489962492 | 39.8 MB
This book has therefore been written for those who want an introductory account of the subject that is qualitative, informative, and is not overburdened with mathematics and circuit analyses. Although it is assumed that the reader has no previous knowledge of electronics, some acquaintance with certain aspects of physics and mathematics must be taken for granted. The reader is expected to have heard of Ohm's law, to be able to manipulate algebraic expressions, to perform very simple differentiations and to know what is meant by a simple integral. The mathematical content has, however, been restricted, but where necessary sufficient instruction is given. (The only exception to this is the section dealing with operational amplifiers.) Partic- ular attention has been paid to the sections dealing with the j-operator and complex numbers in a.c. theory, both of which are extremely easy to under- stand.

Electronic Properties of Materials An Introduction for Engineers
Free Download Electronic Properties of Materials: An Introduction for Engineers by Rolf E. Hummel4
English | PDF | 1985 | 323 Pages | ISBN : N/A | 24.1 MB
The present book on electrical, optical, magnetic and thermal properties of materials is in many aspects different from other introductory texts in solid state physics. First of all, this book is written for engineers, particularly materials and electrical engineers who want to gain a fundamental under standing of semiconductor devices, magnetic materials, lasers, alloys, etc. Second, it stresses concepts rather than mathematical formalism, which should make the presentation relatively easy to understand. Thus, this book provides a thorough preparation for advanced texts, monographs, or special ized journal articles. Third, this book is not an encyclopedia. The selection oftopics is restricted to material which is considered to be essential and which can be covered in a 15-week semester course. For those professors who want to teach a two-semester course, supplemental topics can be found which deepen the understanding. (These sections are marked by an asterisk. ) Fourth, the present text leaves the teaching of crystallography, X-ray diffrac tion, diffusion, lattice defects, etc. , to those courses which specialize in these subjects. As a rule, engineering students learn this material at the beginning of their upper division curriculum. The reader is, however, reminded of some of these topics whenever the need arises. Fifth, this book is distinctly divided into five self-contained parts which may be read independently.

Electronic Materials From Silicon to Organics
Free Download Electronic Materials: From Silicon to Organics by L. S. Miller, J. B. Mullin
English | PDF | 1991 | 549 Pages | ISBN : 0306436558 | 77.4 MB
Electronic materials are a dominant factor in many areas of modern technology. The need to understand'them is paramount; this book addresses that need. The main aim of this volume is to provide a broad unified view of electronic materials, including key aspects of their science and technology and also, in many cases, their commercial implications. It was considered important that much of the contents of such an overview should be intelligible by a broad audience of graduates and industrial scientists, and relevant to advanced undergraduate studies. It should also be up to date and even looking forward to the future. Although more extensive, and written specifically as a text, the resulting book has much in common with a short course of the same name given at Coventry Polytechnic. The interpretation of the term "electronic materials" used in this volume is a very broad one, in line with the initial aim. The principal restriction is that, with one or two minor exceptions relating to aspects of device processing, for example, the materials dealt with are all active materials. Materials such as simple insulators or simple conductors, playing only a passive role, are not singled out for consider ation. Active materials might be defined as those involved in the processing of signals in a way that depends crucially on some specific property of those materials, and the immediate question then concerns the types of signals that might be considered.

Electron Transport in Compound Semiconductors
Free Download Electron Transport in Compound Semiconductors by Biswaranjan Nag
English | PDF | 1980 | 476 Pages | ISBN : 3642814182 | 41 MB
Discovery of new transport phenomena and invention of electron devices through exploitation of these phenomena have caused a great deal of interest in the properties of compound semiconductors in recent years. Extensive re search has been devoted to the accumulation of experimental results, par ticularly about the artificially synthesised compounds. Significant ad vances have also been made in the improvement of the related theory so that the values of the various transport coefficients may be calculated with suf ficient accuracy by taking into account all the complexities of energy band structure and electron scattering mechanisms. Knowledge about these deve lopments may, however, be gathered only from original research contributions, scattered in scientific journals and conference proceedings. Review articles have been published from time to time, but they deal with one particular material or a particular phenomenon and are written at an advanced level. Available text books on semiconductor physics, do not cover the subject in any detail since many of them were written decades ago. There is, there fore, a definite need for a book, giving a comprehensive account of electron transport in compound semiconductors and covering the introductory material as well as the current work. The present book is an attempt to fill this gap in the literature. The first chapter briefly reviews the history of the developement of compound semiconductors and their applications. It is also an introduction to the contents of the book.
