Hexagon Manufacturing Intelligenceis pleased to announce the launch of MSC CoSim 2025.1 is an advanced simulation tool that integrates multi-disciplinary simulations, combining various engineering tools and models. It is designed for system-level analysis, optimizing product designs by enabling simulation of multiple domains concurrently.

This release features improved coupled analysis with Adams and Marc, and Marc/MSC Nastran and scFLOW. New command specification options are also included in the graphic interface.

MSC CoSim 2025.1 Release highlights
Key highlights of MSC CoSim 2025.1 include:
Enhancement in Adams - Marc Coupling
Marc estimated time increment is now supported in MSC CoSim 2025.1. Originally, CoSim engine sent the internally calculated new time increment (dt_new) to Marc and Adams. However, Marc also calculates a separate estimated dt_est which can be smaller than dt_new. With MSC CoSim 2025.1, the CoSim engine now considers both values and uses the smaller time increment in the simulation. This new criteria has the potential to benefit both performance and convergence. The number of cutbacks can indeed be reduced due to the usage of a more suitable time increment. This can be particularly beneficial for highly non-linear jobs which previously required many cutbacks.
Note: Actual performance gain and cutbacks reduction vary depending on the specific problem setup and boundary conditions

Enhancements for Marc-scFLOW & MSC Nastran-scFLOW coupling
A new parameter to control the minimum number of CoSim iteration loops has been added to the CoSim Condition Wizard. It is now possible to set a minimum number of iterations in the iterative CoSIm mode in Marc-scFLOW and the static CoSim mode in Nastran-scFLOW. This enhancement improves accuracy and stability by preventing premature loop terminations. Setup of complex systems where convergence thresholds are hard to define is simpler and ideal for non-linear systems or problems hard to converge. This offers also an easy way to achieve higher accuracy in fluid-structure co-simulations.

Other Enhancements
The thermal co-simulation in Marc-scFLOW coupling is now supported also via the new specification of the scFLOW command (COSIM command).
Notes:
- The configuration steps in CoSimPRE are the same as when using the conventional scFLOW command (COSIM_STRUCTURE command).
- scFLOW pre/solver in Cradle CFD 2025.1 is required to use this feature in scFLOW.
- The new command specification of scFLOW is available by selecting [New specification] as [Command specification for the co-simulation using MSC CoSim] in [Environment Setting] dialog in scFLOWpre.
- Some features, such as the 6-DOF separation and restart, are only available with the new specification scFLOW command. New functions related to scFLOW coupling will be added using the new command specification in the future

TheMSC CoSimengine has been developed to provide a co-simulation interface for the direct coupling of different solvers/disciplines with a multiphysics framework. Co-simulation provides engineers with a unique, more complete & holistic performance insight by coupling together multiple simulation disciplines. Multibody dynamics (MBD), Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD), and structural analysis (FEA) can be connected thanks to MSC CoSim. Depending on the type of analysis, engineers can use Hexagon's solutions in two ways - Co-Simulation (applying multiple physics to the model simultaneously) or Chained Simulation (passing load case results from one analysis to the next).
MSC CoSim - Adam-scFLOW Co-Simulation of Flap Mechanism
This video presents co-simulation using Adams-scFLOW of the flap mechanism of high lift configuration and how MSC CoSim can help in achieving real-time coupling between Adams (multi-body dynamic software) and scFLOW (Computational Fluid Dynamic software (CFD)) using MSC CoSim to improve the design of mechanism by considering real-time fluid forces acting on it.
