Software Overview

ALEC extends interaction with Ableton Live by providing alternative keyboard shortcuts and mouse-based controls. It can speed up operations such as drawing, deleting, moving, resizing, duplicating, editing parameter values, switching views, and managing plugin windows.
Two dedicated keys can be configured according to the user's preferences and combined with modifier keys or mouse buttons for different commands.

Draw, Delete, Move and Resize

ALEC provides alternative controls for working with objects inside Ableton Live. MIDI notes can be inserted and envelopes or automation can be modified as if Draw Mode were active. Items positioned beneath the mouse cursor can also be deleted with a single click.
The mouse wheel can be combined with keyboard shortcuts to move and resize supported items, providing additional ways to manipulate content without relying exclusively on Live's standard controls.

Duplicate Items at the Cursor Position

Selected items can be duplicated directly to the current mouse cursor position. The supported content includes MIDI notes, clips, automation, tracks, devices, and other items available through the feature.

Mouse Wheel Parameter Control

After clicking a Live parameter to give it focus, the mouse wheel can be used with a configured special key to adjust its value. This provides a way to make parameter changes without repeatedly clicking interface controls.

Plugin Window Management

ALEC provides shortcuts for managing open audio plugin windows. Users can close all AU, VST, and VST3 plugin windows at once, close only the active plugin window, or show and hide all currently open plugin windows through keyboard commands.

View and Workflow Shortcuts

A single key can be used to switch between Clip and Device views instead of relying on the standard SHIFT+TAB shortcut. Additional simplified keyboard controls are available for showing or hiding different interface views.
The mouse back and forward buttons can also be assigned to operations such as resizing the grid and transposing all MIDI notes in a clip by octave.

Additional Controls

• CONTROL+SHIFT+Z performs the Redo action from Live's undo history
  
• F2 provides a Windows Explorer-style rename operation
  
• Invert the mouse wheel behavior so it performs horizontal zooming by default instead of scrolling
  
• Use the mouse back and forward buttons for grid resizing and MIDI octave transposition
