Throughout the course, you will learn the fundamental concepts ofLightning Protection Systems (LPS), Lightning Protection Zones (LPZ), Lightning Electromagnetic Pulse (LEMP), equipotential bonding, spatial shielding, line shielding, cable routing, isolation interfaces, and Surge Protective Devices (SPDs).
The course begins with the principles ofIEC 62305-3, focusing on protection against physical damage to structures and protection of people from dangerous touch and step voltages. You will understand the important elements of an external Lightning Protection System, including air-termination systems, down-conductors, earth-termination systems, separation distance, and lightning equipotential bonding.
The course then moves toIEC 62305-4, where the focus is on protecting electrical and electronic systems against the electromagnetic effects of lightning. You will learn how theLightning Protection Zone concept can be used to progressively reduce the electromagnetic environment from the outside of a structure toward sensitive equipment.
