Use GitHub Copilot, Cursor, Claude Code, JaCoCo and Diffblue Cover to write reliable tests for Spring Boot, faster

What you'll learn

⚡ Generate JUnit 5 unit tests for real Spring Boot code using GitHub Copilot, Cursor, JetBrains AI Assistant, and Claude Code
⚡ Generate a fully autonomous test suite with Diffblue Cover, and know when it's the right tool for the job
⚡ Write prompts that produce consistent, maintainable tests instead of a different test every time
⚡ Recognize the "ground truth problem" and the other most common AI test generation failure modes
⚡ Apply a human-in-the-loop review checklist to catch what AI-generated tests miss
⚡ Read and interpret test coverage reports with JaCoCo
⚡ Compare today's AI testing toolscape and choose the right tool for your stack
⚡ Build the judgment to trust, fix, or throw out any AI-generated test, from any tool

Requirements

❗ Comfortable writing Java code and running a Maven or Gradle build

Description

A Stack Overflow survey found that most developers don't fully trust AI-generated code, and testing is one of the places that distrust runs deepest. AI tools can write a unit test in seconds. The harder question is whether that test is actually checking the right thing, and whether you can trust it enough to ship it.
This course is a practical, hands-on guide to using AI tools for unit testing the right way. It's built for developers who already write tests and want to write them faster and better with AI, not for developers looking for a shortcut around learning to test at all.
Working inside a real Spring Boot codebase, you'll use GitHub Copilot, Cursor, JetBrains AI Assistant, and Claude Code to generate JUnit 5 tests, and watch Diffblue Cover generate a full autonomous test suite from scratch. You'll learn prompting techniques that produce consistent, maintainable tests instead of a different test every time you ask, and you'll learn to recognize the specific ways AI-generated tests fail, including the "ground truth problem": AI can only test what your code does, not what it's supposed to do.
By the end, you'll have a repeatable process for using AI in your testing workflow: which tool to reach for, how to prompt it, what to check before you trust the output, and a human-in-the-loop review checklist you can apply to any AI-generated test, from any tool.
What's covered
✨ The current AI testing toolscape, and what each tool is actually good at today
✨ Hands-on test generation with GitHub Copilot, Cursor, JetBrains AI Assistant, and Claude Code
✨ A full autonomous test generation walkthrough with Diffblue Cover
✨ Prompting techniques for tests, shown as bad prompt versus good prompt
✨ The most common AI test generation failure modes, and how to catch them
✨ A human-in-the-loop review checklist for AI-generated tests
✨ Reading test coverage with JaCoCo, so you know what your tests actually cover
Who it's for: this course assumes you already know Java and have written unit tests before. It's built for intermediate developers, not people writing their first test. If you're new to testing, this isn't the place to start, it's about using AI on top of testing skills you already have.
By the end, you won't just have a folder of AI-generated tests. You'll have judgment: the ability to look at any AI-generated test and know whether to trust it, fix it, or throw it out.

Who this course is for

⭐ Java and Spring Boot developers who already write some tests and want to use AI to write them faster and better
⭐ QA and SDET engineers evaluating AI-assisted unit testing tools for their team
⭐ Tech leads deciding which AI testing tools are worth adopting
⭐ Not for absolute beginners to programming or unit testing.
