Learn how 5G really works: cells, spectrum, the gNB, the 5G Core, OFDM, beamforming and slicing, explained with diagrams
What you'll learn
⚡ Draw the whole 5G system from memory: device, radio network, 5G Core and data network, and the links between them
⚡ Explain what 5G changed compared with 4G, and how eMBB, URLLC and mMTC shaped its design
⚡ Name the main 5G Core functions (AMF, SMF, UPF, PCF, NRF, AUSF, UDM) and describe the job each one does
⚡ Read a 5G spectrum chart and explain the FR1 and FR2 trade-off between coverage and capacity
⚡ Explain OFDM, MIMO and beamforming in plain terms, without equations
⚡ Walk through power-on to first packet: identities, RRC states, registration and PDU sessions
⚡ Tell NSA from SA deployments and separate 5G marketing claims from how networks really work
⚡ Describe network slicing and QoS at a first-look level, ready for deeper RAN or core study
Requirements
❗ No telecom background needed, just everyday familiarity with phones and the internet
❗ No maths, coding or lab equipment required
Description
5G gets explained badly more often than it gets explained well. Most introductions either drown you in acronyms or stay so vague that you finish without being able to draw a single part of the network. This course takes the middle road: one idea per lesson, a diagram you watch being built, and plain language first, with the real terms attached once the picture makes sense.By the end you will be able to sketch the whole 5G system from memory, from the phone through the radio network and the 5G Core out to the internet, and explain what each part does and why it was designed that way.
What the seven sections cover
✨The 5G big picture: what 5G actually changed, the eMBB / URLLC / mMTC triangle, and who writes the rules (ITU and 3GPP).
✨Cellular foundations: cells and sectors, spectrum and licensing, 1G to 4G, and the LTE/EPC platform 5G grew out of.
✨5G system architecture: three domains and two planes, NSA versus SA, the gNB, the core, and the Uu, N2 and N3 links.
✨Service-based architecture: how core functions find and call each other, AMF and SMF, AUSF, UDM, PCF, and the UPF.
✨Radio and spectrum: FR1 and FR2, OFDM without the maths, modulation and coding, MIMO and beamforming, coverage versus capacity.
✨Connecting to the network: SUPI and SUCI, RRC states, registration, PDU sessions and QoS, and the full trip when you tap a link.
✨Putting it together: network slicing, common 5G myths checked against how networks really behave, and the full diagram rebuilt.
How it is taught
34 short video lessons, about 3.3 hours in total, most between five and eight minutes. There is no maths and no lab setup. Every lesson builds on the same network map, so each new piece has an obvious place to go. Short on-screen checks let you test yourself as you go; they are for your own practice, not a grade. The first section is free to preview, so you can see the style before you enrol.
Who it suits: engineers moving into telecom from IT or networking, graduates heading for operator or vendor roles, and product, sales or project people who need the technical picture. No telecom background is assumed.
This course is independent training. It is not affiliated with or endorsed by 3GPP, ITU, GSMA or any network vendor or operator. 3GPP is a trademark of ETSI; other names are used only to describe the technology.
Who this course is for
⭐ Engineers and technicians moving into telecom from IT, networking or electronics
⭐ Graduates preparing for roles at mobile operators, equipment vendors or telecom consultancies
⭐ Product, sales, pre-sales and project staff who work with 5G and want the technical picture
⭐ Students and self-learners who want a clear, structured start before deeper RAN or 5G Core study
