This course covers the occupational health and safety hazards, recommended controls, and suggested best practices to safely work at heights. The course is specific to the working at heights requirements of the Canada Labour Code Part 2 and is designed to provide guidance for personnel working in federally regulated workplaces in Canada. It is also useful for safety professionals studying for the Canadian Registered Safety Professional Examination (CRSPEX) or Canadian Registered Safety Technician Examination (CRSTEX), especially those who normally do not work in federally regulated workplaces.Topics include:Definitions and Concepts – Canada Labour Code Part II and other jurisdictions; working at heights defined, temporary work areas, fall protection systems (fall arrest, passive fall protection, fall-restraint, personal fall protection)Fall Protection Hardware – personal fall arrest hardware (harness, lanyard, anchor), harness classes and uses, types of lanyards and uses, connecting devices (O-rings, D-Rings, carabiners, etc.), anchor points (fixed, temporary, load minimums), types and uses of lifelines (static, shock absorbers, rope-grabbers)Fall Protection Plans – Requirements and expected contents (equipment, training, anchors, procedures for assembly, rescue systems; fall protection training (equipment use, general concepts)Fall from Height Rescue – Expectation of organizational rescue capability; orthostatic intolerance and mitigation, self-rescue and rescue team options, reporting incidents and medical considerations after a fall
