It's about riding in a horse-drawn sleigh and how wonderful it was to ride along with her parents at her side, feeling like a queen.At that time the sleigh was the main means of transportation in the winter until cars were invented and came into common use.You could hear the sleigh for miles as the bells on the sleigh and horse jingled in the crisp open air. The owners of the sleigh and the horses were the pride of the family and often the horse would be treated as a member of the family.Over frozen ice and snow the ride was nice, but in the early to late spring, and even into summer, it turned into a bumpy, bone jarring ride. The ice on the roads was not completely melted and usually was not well maintained.During the winter, people would sing as they smoothly rode along in the frozen air. Many songs have been composed about winter sleigh riding. "Jingles Bells" is one of those beloved popular seasonal and beloved songs.
