Description

Value-based healthcare has become the dominant framework for finding solutions to improve healthcare efficiency and systems' sustainability. In our Value Intelligence introductory course to VBHC we defined value as quality, or outcomes that matter to patients, relative to the cost of achieving those outcomes. We also noted several key strategies within VBHC such as methods for linking clinician reimbursements to patient outcomes, methods to place more financial risk on clinicians, care delivery models and reimbursement models. We discussed these approaches in both an international context, as well as in the cases of insurance and health technology companies.So having learned about what value based health care is through our introductory course, you are probably wondering how we can go about creating more value in healthcare services and products. In this course, we will address this question by focusing on quality improvement for patients - the numerator side of the quality outcomes for money spent value equation. We will present a framework that considers three critical factors for improving outcomes that are important to patients through our quality improvement pyramid.Our goal is to make the process of improving the quality of care for patients as straightforward, clear, and actionable as possible.
