Description
I've discovered that some lawyers, especially those in the provinces, struggle with presenting and cross-examining witnesses. With the advancement of AI, my advocacy is to help lawyers hone the skills that AI cannot replace. As mentioned in the course, in this modern age, we often hear that technology will replace many jobs, particularly in the BPO industry. Some even assume that because research has become easier and AI can provide answers, lawyers are no longer necessary. This mindset leads some people to undervalue the legal profession. We, as lawyers, do not consider ourselves above others nor do we claim entitlement. But let me ask you: What will you feel if someone with no legal training—regardless of his or her educational background or profession—to belittle or discredit the legal profession?Embracing technology is necessary, but undermining lawyers just because of AI, should not be tolerated. Many non-lawyers do not understand the struggles of a law student pursuing the dream of becoming a lawyer. They do not know the prayers, the tears, the sacrifice, the sleepless nights, the anxiety, the feeling of being overwhelmed, and even the self-doubt.They do not understand why we protect the dignity of our profession. While we adapt to technological advancements, we must hone the skills that AI cannot replace—the skills we exercise in the courtroom, which include how we manifest, how we argue, how we convince that our argument is more meritorious, how we present our witness, our evidence, how we conduct the cross-examination, etc.We must remember that in litigation, we cannot take our work lightly because other people's rights and lives depend on us. Litigation requires intense discipline—sometimes bordering on obsessive dedication. We study a case repeatedly not only to avoid reprimand from the judge, but to serve our clients well. This course will cover basic to intermediate techniques. Mastery will come from practice. You'll discover your own style. Just like in chess, you'll develop your own strategy. Time will come that you can immediately spot an objectionable question and timely raise your objection.
