Here I explain the Tone function in Clip Studio, which is one of the most distinctive and important expressive techniques in Japanese manga. Traditional Japanese manga is still often rendered in black to keep printing costs down. However, black and white alone cannot express a variety of colors. To overcome this problem, a sheet called a Tone is used, which consists of small black dots and can represent any shade of grey depending on the density and size of the dots. Japanese manga artists have been expressing grey by pasting these sheets onto their line drawings. Unfortunately, however, these sheets are not easy to get hold of outside Japan.
With Clip Studio Paint, you can color your drawings like Japanese manga very easily, without having to search for the sheets. Now, let's color in the Japanese manga style easily using Clip Studio Paint!
What you can learn is,
To paste a Tone using Clip Studio Paint.
To paste the same Tone again in a different place.
To change the density of the pasted Tone.
Easily paste a Tone on a leftover area.
Painting in grey.
Changing the density of the grey color later.
Replacing a grey painted area with a Tone.
etc.
